Our Lanyard System: Keeping Children Safe

At KTS Academy, safeguarding is our top priority. We use a colour-coded lanyard system to help everyone in our school community quickly identify who has been through our safeguarding checks.

Why We Use Lanyards

Our lanyard system is an important part of our safeguarding procedures. It allows staff, pupils, and visitors to easily see who has the appropriate clearance to work unsupervised with children, helping to create a safe and secure environment for everyone.

What the Different Colours Mean

KTS Academy Staff Our staff members wear blue lanyards. These are worn by all employees of KTS Academy.

Others with Enhanced DBS and SCR Registration Green lanyards are worn by visitors and contractors who have an enhanced DBS certificate and are registered on our Single Central Record (SCR).

Visitors Without Enhanced DBS Black lanyards are worn by anyone who does not have an enhanced DBS certificate. People wearing these lanyards must be supervised at all times when on school premises.

What This Means in Practice

  • All visitors to our school will be issued with the appropriate lanyard based on their DBS status
  • Visitors without an enhanced DBS certificate will always be accompanied by a member of staff
  • Our pupils are taught to recognise the lanyard system as part of their safeguarding education
  • All staff are responsible for challenging anyone not wearing the correct identification

Your Role as a Parent/Carer/Visitor

If you visit the school, you will be issued with the appropriate lanyard at reception. Please wear it visibly at all times during your visit and return it when you leave.

If you ever see someone on the school premises without a lanyard, or if you have any concerns, please report this immediately to reception or a member of staff.
