KTS Community Café is an integral part of the Make and Bake curriculum pathway. Our students who choose Make and Bake, learn about job roles, money management, customer services and many other valuable work related skills in a safe and supported environment. 

Each Friday morning pupils in our Make and Bake group run a community café. This is open to members of the community and all classes within KTS. Pupils gain valuable skills for employability whilst working in the café and also gain qualifications towards future employment. Pupils within the group are involved in all aspects of the community café. As well as serving hot drinks and cakes the pupils love to run a ‘bingo lingo’ session to entertain the customers.

The pupils are also involved in the preparation of being able to provide quality products to sell in our cafe. Pupils have a good understanding of health and hygiene procedures, they understand the importance of following them when working in the café. Pupils are responsible for deciding what products to make each week, checking stock and visiting the supermarket to source ingredients whilst looking at prices and budgeting. Each Thursday the pupils prepare and bake a variety of cakes, scones and tray bakes to serve in the café.

The pupils are responsible for keeping their areas clean and completing the laundry at the end of each session. This includes using the washing machine, dryer and iron to prepare items such as uniform and table cloths. The make and bake group are developing excellent social skills whilst greeting and serving customers. It is fantastic to see the pupils grow in confidence week on week.
